LAWTF will be highlighting all of its workshops and panels as we get closer to our exciting educational event and is kicking off LAWTF's  third spotlight with our workshop below:
  
NUTS AND BOLTS OF THE BUSINESS
11:05 a.m. - 12:35 p.m.

This panel focuses on how to negotiate fees and contracts for your show, how to rent theatre space and work with presenters. You will also learn to research appropriate theatre venues for your work, as well learn to barter or co-produce your show, and learn to market your show for free.

Barbara Roberts is an actor, singer, writer, director and educator who has penned and performed over 5 Solo Plays including Ain't Nobody's Blues But MineJuke Joint JamminThe Politics of MeMs. O, and Body Words and Eloquent Thunder.Barbara has developed various workshops and panels for Actors Equity, SAG,AFTRASAG-AFTRA and NAACP which focused on Equal Access to Casting, for actors of color, women, seniors and actors with disabilities as well as is the Founder/Director of The Institute of Real Images, Inc





Roz Browne has kept audiences laughing since 1992 when she first began to pursue her dream. Taught by Gary Austin, founder of The Groundlings, Browne has excellent improv abilities and has been steadily making her presence known in Hollywood ever since. A graduate of the University of Southern California, Browne is a former Certified Public Accountant who was a Tax Specialist for the now defunct Arthur Andersen & Company, she also managed the books for such well known celebrities like Peter Guber, John Peters, Lou Rawls and Natalie Cole before embarking on her own Hollywood career. Browne's acclaimed one-woman show "Fried Clams with Bellies" directed by Adilah Barnes, was performed in front of sold out audiences in Hollywood in 2003. Browne then took her show to  Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts and also performed it for The Los Angeles Women's Theater FestivalIn 2007 Browne launched "The Merry Wives Of Comedy", a Stand Up Comedy Show, featuring some of the Nation's Talented Female Comedians. The successful co-production of "28 Very Funny Females" and her many other production and hosting activities was a great jumping point for this adventure. Browne's film credits include Danny Devito's Blockbuster film How High, Sunset Park Deirdra's Party and a new short film "The Garage Sale".

Sloan Robinson is multiple NAACP Theatre Award-winning actor, dancer, playwright and producer, best known for her roles in films including A Christmas WeddingFine Things and Nancy Drew.  
 Robinson's solo show credits also include "Yesterday Came Too Soon...The Dorothy Dandridge Story," "Its A Good Thing I Knew How To Dance" along with her portrayal of the legendary Josephine Baker, "BANANAS! A Day In The Life of Josephine Baker."
Sloan Robinson has performed at countless venues including during the Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival's 21st Annual Festival, "Giving Voice" at the Electric Lodge in Venice, CA.
  
Clarinda Ross authored and tours two plays, From My Grandmother's Grandmother Unto Me and Spit Like A Big Girl.  She won the Tennessee Williams scholarship to the Sewanee Writer's Conference at University of the South and was one of the youngest ever recipients of the NEA's individual artist grant.  She made her film debut in Blue Sky (last film by Sir Tony Richardson) with Jessica Lange and Tommy Lee Jones.  Her episodic television credits include: The United States of Tara, Medium, The District, The Drew Carey Show, Judging Amy, E.R., The Client, NewsRadio, Days of Our Lives, In The Heat of The Night, and I'll Fly Away. Ross has appeared at many leading regional theatres. She was on the council of Actor's Equity for many years and is currently a delegate for SAG.AFTRA. She is married to the actor Googy Gress. 
 
Sky Palkowitz, known as "The Delusional Diva", is an Avant-Garde Multimedia Performance Artist and Character Illusionist from New York. She's performed around the country and all over Los Angeles, can be seen on TV, internet and film, and recently toured Southern CA playing Nurse in Romeo and Juliet with Shakespeare by the Sea in parks to over 25,000 people. Palkowitz just returned from the off-Broadway Premier of her solo show Calling America: Don't Hang Up!!

EMPOWERMENT DAY offers a day full of information, training, and career advice from industry professionals for anyone seeking a career as a solo performer or contemplating theatrical production in Los Angeles. The day is designed to uplift, inspire, and educate local solo artists.

HOW TO SUBMIT A WINNING PACKAGE
FOR A SOLO FESTIVAL
11:05 a.m. - 12:35 p.m.

This returned workshop will cover the do's and don'ts participants need to know for submitting an impressive presentation of their work for a solo performance festival, from the application form to photographs and action shots, as well as learning to write a compelling cover letter. Attendees will learn to discern between a good DVD and bad DVD for submission and how to insure their demo is calibrated for viewing on a standard DVD player. Participants will learn what goes into an engaging high quality performance that the panelists are looking for when they review submitted work.

Elizabeth Wu (I'm Dop3!Prison Is Where I Learned To Fly) is an artist, actor, producer, and a part of the LAWTF Festival Submission Screening Panel, as well as the Founder and Executive director of Serving Artist in Process (SAIPRO). Wu believes there is an artist in everyone in whatever field of endeavor. In this light, SAIPRO is dedicated to providing a supportive community where the individual feels safe and encouraged to grow through the arts, to develop the skills to express their art, to showcase their work, and to attune to the "spirit of the artist within." SAIPRO has produced a number of solo productions. Elizabeth Wu is also a board member of the Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival.




Sarah Zitin is a holistic practitioner, Chinese herbalist, author, public speaker, actor and part of the LAWTF Festival Submission Screen PanelFor the past 25 years, Sarah Zitin has practiced several modalities of bodywork and energy healing, working to align others in all ways- physically, spiritually emotionally and mentally, enabling others to achieve optimum well-being. Now the author of a new book, "A Simple Guide to Immunity,"Zitin is working on educating people on the benefits of participating in one's own healing, creating a healthier, happier lifestyle. Sarah Zitin is a long-time friend and supporter of the Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival as well as an annual member of the LAWTF Festival Submission Screening Panel. As a public speaker, artist and author, Zitin is excited to be a part of the 2nd Annual EMPOWERMENT DAY helping to further solo artists in creating both successful careers and more fulfilled lifestyles.
